Istar is an independent guide to AI software services—how they work, who they're for, and what's worth paying for.
We publish AI subscription and billing decision guides for freelancers and small teams. The aim is practical: help readers understand the price they will actually pay, the limits attached to a plan, and the choices available before renewal or cancellation.
How we research
We start with first-party sources, including official pricing pages, help centers, product documentation, and terms. Time-sensitive claims are tied to a specific date so readers can distinguish a current price or policy from an undated promise. When a guide discusses a promotion, we separate the introductory offer from the regular renewal price whenever the official source provides both.
Our guides focus on decision criteria such as billing channel, renewal timing, usage limits, seat requirements, cancellation paths, and data or licensing terms. We do not assign numeric review scores. A single score can hide the tradeoffs that matter most to a freelancer or a small team, so we explain the conditions behind a choice instead.
How we update guides
Pricing and plan rules change. We date our guides and update them when a material first-party source changes or when a correction is needed. Readers should still check the provider's current checkout page and terms before paying, especially when currency, tax, region, app-store billing, or a limited-time promotion can change the final amount.
